ADD build

Postby Andy243 » Mon Jul 26, 2010 3:42 pm

Hi Kev,

The kit arrived the other day, thanks.

I assembled it methodically and carefully, but I still can't get it to work, by which I mean it neither allows signal to bypass it or have any effect on it.I have a sneaky suspicion my grounding scheme is routing the signal to ground.

Only the footswitch, "input" jack and circuit board "Grnd" are routed to the Ground lug of the 9v power supply.
The "output" jack I have not grounded, as the instructions said that only one of them needed to be.

I also did not notice that the wires to the HP/LP switch were meant to attach to different lugs on it. An obvious point, but I was wiring from the layout, and it said both were to go to S1, which I assumed to be lug number one on the switch. The Volume pot almost set on fire in this combination and I fear it doesn't work anymore.

I think I am having a bit of a balls up - any help?

The worst part is, I just finished building an 18watt marshall from just a layout diagram, and that works flawlessly!! :(

Ok. A few points there so lets take them individually.

This is the first issue. This tells me that the switch isn't wired correctly. My pedals are all true bypass which means there's a direct connection between the input and output jacks. In other words, even if you disconnect power and the effect is knackered - you'll still get a signal flowing through it when bypassing the effect. You NEED to sort this before going any further. Triple check the switch wiring and it'll be something obvious. Check for shorts to ground aswell.

That's fine. The other jack is grounded through the case.

Not good. Basically there's two lugs on the switch and the 2 tracks on the board that go to the switch go to each lug. In other words, one track goes to one lug and the other to the other lug. Therefore the switch is connecting/disconnecting these two tracks.

I can send you a replacement volume pot if you want? Email me where you want it sent (mail@diypedalkits.com)

Let me know how you get on. Definitely get that switch and the footswitch sorted first then take it from there.

Regards

Kev
